My hubby JT has always been 100% against anything he considered “paranormal”, “supernatural”, “witch craft”, “against his God”, yadda. So, basically - he and I don’t talk about a WHOLE bunch of things. LOL To make the division complete - he’s from the North, and I’m Southern all the way. For years he harassed me about my “beliefs”, or lack thereof. He stayed after me about things I practiced in front of the kids, and constantly denounced anything he considered to be outside his own little concept of reality. I’ve always been good with this, it never really bothered me that he was so closed minded… well, until a few days ago. LOL
Anyway, while doing the family tree research, things began to fall into place for me like missing pieces of a jig saw puzzle. Suddenly there seemed logic and reason to things, I myself, had wondered about. My “superstitions”, “rituals”, love of hand made crafts, quilting, sewing, cooking, gardening, animals - all traits of an ancestral heritage stemming from the Appalachian mountains and Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. There’s Melungeon people in the tree, I have the cranial ridge to prove I got some of this too! They descended from a very lengthy (and colorful) legacy of Portuguese and Gypsy heritage. Of course, there’s strong Cherokee lines as well. All these things, all the factors that went into making ME - I didn‘t CHOOSE these things, they were actually passed down to me!
So… I tell hubby… look here buster! LOL I have the genetic RIGHT to be the way I am! I can’t (and wouldn’t even try) to take the Yankee outta you… so quit trying to squelch my mountain folk/southerner/Cherokee/Melungeon/Gypsy/non-religious/haint and booger-believing ways right now!
After he finally stopped laughing at me, he said: “Southerner’s should come with warning labels.” LMAO
