I read a book called "Embraced by the Light" by Betty J. Eadie (I think).
In the book she mentions that the spirit chooses what life it wants due to what it needs. She asked the question "Why would a spirit choose to be a drunk on the street, or raped in it's life, or die a violent death". The explanation given to her was that the spirit needed that experience to be fulfilled or complete.
She also states that when we feel we have been reincarnated by memories of things we couldn't have possibly done or whatever, that it's the memories of our ancestors and have been passed down to us through genetics.
My take on it is...I think we are reincarnated to learn lessons. We couldn't possibly get it all done in one lifetime. And if you think about it---from a Christian theory that we all die and go to heaven or hell. How many spirits would that be over the time span that the earth has existed? I mean wouldn't heaven and hell be overflowing with spirits if a new one was created each time a human being was born? It make more sense that we are reincarnated--for the recycling if nothing else. Surely god is frugal and earth conscience and would recycle.
Maybe some of our 'memories' can be passed through genetics, but I don't believe all of them would. And why would some people in the same family have those memories from ancestors and others not?
What's your thoughts?
