According to the definition in "Solitary Witch" by Silver Ravenwolf, a poltergeist is: A noisy, sometimes violent, physical phenomena that is usually caused by hormonal imbalance or regressed anger.
My question is: Is it caused by those things, or does it feed off those things? Is it a manifestation of those or is it an entity in it's own right?
Ang posted some common terms and in that I got this:
Is that saying basically the same as they are manifested from the unconscious mind?
I don't know if I mentioned it in the dream thread, but I did have the thought that maybe this certain person I know has manifested these things and brought them on herself.
Any comments?

See... I don't know either... I don't think ANYONE does. Which makes a poltergeist so damn hard to deal with. I think the feed on the trauma/drama, as opposed to creating it, I think they are drawn to it like a moth to a flame. BUT - with that said, maybe the trauma/drama is a manifestation in and of itself too - directly projected by a person experiencing the trauma/drama. Confusing, huh? ;D
I've only had one experience with a true poltergeist, and it picked up and threw down an investigator so hard on the floor it broke her hip. It was Barbara Highfield, she’s 65, 66 - somewhere in there, lol - and that was her last ghost adventure. Her husband put his foot down after that and said, NO MORE. And for these "experts" to say it's NOT an entity of some form astounds me... this thing took it's actions with INTENT, FOCUS, and astonishing force, speed, and accuracy. There was nothing random about the energy it manipulated. And it had some form of "consciousness", as in - it was hard to protect yourself against - because it had the ability to "guess" where you might run, what you might grab to defend yourself with, and what actions you might take. I'm sorry, but that's not a simple kinetic energy ball running amuck. LOL
And it's the only thing that has ever truly scared the shit out of me. Honestly, I don't think I have the courage to face another poltergeist, knowingly, anyway. It would have to be after someone I cared about or something, you know? Like a stranger with a gun, if given the chance I'd run from one - but if he was between me and my kids - I'd take him on. I kinda view poltergeist the same way, I don't have any desire to face another one unless I absolutely have to.
I have no clue how you deal with one, make it stop - or even protect yourself from the thing. From my experience, the more you TRY to fight the thing, the worse they get. Almost like they feed off the attention. The people who lived in this particular house, moved. They didn't experience anything in their new home at all. And the next renters who moved into the first house experienced the poltergeist to some degree, for about 6 months - then it just stopped. And it was never as violent toward them as it had been the previous renters either.
Some interesting side notes… Barbara is a psychic, she’s worked with police on missing person cases and was a regular for a while on Art Bell’s radio program. The first set of renters who contacted her made it clear this was a PRIVATE matter, the woman was a public school teacher, and the man was a public official. The family had just moved to area from Chicago and weren’t planning on renting any longer than it took to find a home to buy. Under no circumstances could their privacy be infringed upon - in other words, no pictures, no video, and Barb had hell talking them into letting us run audio. Her sole purpose there was to attempt contact and try to get the poltergeist to stop the damage it was causing. We tried to get them to allow us to contact their landlord for history on the home, but they adamantly refused. No one was to know, not even their neighbors, if ask - we were to tell them we were family visiting from out of town. It wasn’t until almost a year later that we finally got to talk to the landlord - thru the second renters. And once the first renters moved and their problems stopped - they told Barb in no uncertain terms - they never wanted her to contact them again. Weird, huh? (They also never even offered to help cover the cost of her broken hip either.)
Anyway, renter’s number 2 let us do a real investigation with cameras and such, but it was a bust, we didn’t get a thing on film. All we experienced while there was a few cold spots, and sounds from unknown origin. And all they ever experienced was doors closing, the sound of footsteps, and if I remember right - the woman told us a story of her dryer starting by itself a few times. The landlord denied knowledge of anything having ever happened in the home, and went on to say renter’s number 1 were always late on their rent and not the best of tenants. Hm… Who knows? LOL
All I know is what I saw, myself, with my own eyes - and it scared the shit out of me.
